Symptoms of depression, could I be suffering from it?

Although identifying a mental disorder is a task that should be left to a mental health professional, it is very important to know how to recognize in ourselves and in the people around us when there are behaviors that may indicate that depression is present in our lives.

Pay attention to the following symptoms and if you feel identified or think it may happen to someone in your family, contact a mental health professional (seeking professional help is important to treat depression early).

Symptoms that may indicate that you suffer from depression:

  1. You have trouble falling asleep or, on the contrary, you want to sleep much more than usual.
  2. You constantly have negative thoughts about yourself, feel guilty for no apparent reason, or lose interest in activities that used to motivate you.
  3. You have a hard time explaining the reasons why you don’t feel good about yourself or the people around you.
  4. You have feelings of hopelessness about your life or life in general.

Although these may be some of the manifestations of depression in your body, there are many more symptoms that you can experience, so it is important that you seek your mental health provider as soon as possible to receive an accurate diagnosis. Also advise family and friends to seek help if these are symptoms present in their life.
